ABOUT THE CONFERENCE
Jus Corpus, in collaboration with Symbiosis Law School, Nagpur and Faculty of Shariah and Law, Villa College, Maldives is proud to present the 3rd International Virtual Conference on “Women’s Rights, Social Equity, and Legal Transformation”, to be held on 19 October 2024. This edition continues the legacy of fostering meaningful dialogue and collaboration that the conference has built over its previous two editions, where key issues affecting women’s rights in developing and emerging societies were at the forefront of discussions.
This conference has established itself as a premier platform for legal professionals, scholars, policymakers, and activists to explore the complex intersections of women’s rights, social equity, and legal reform. With a focus on addressing both the systemic challenges and the opportunities for legal and social transformation, this year’s conference will emphasise actionable strategies for promoting gender equality.
OBJECTIVES OF THE CONFERENCE
- Promote Dialogue and Collaboration: To create a space for exchange among scholars, activists, and policymakers from around the world, with the aim of fostering collaboration on advancing women’s rights and social equity.
- Highlight Legal Reforms: To address the role of legal frameworks and judicial interventions in driving social transformation and promoting women’s rights.
- Empower Voices: To amplify the voices of women and marginalised groups in emerging societies by spotlighting successful grassroots initiatives and innovative legal solutions.
- Catalyze Social Change: To inspire the formulation and implementation of policies that target gender-based inequalities, focusing on issues such as access to education, healthcare, and justice.
- Build on Established Legacy: To strengthen the growing body of knowledge generated from the first two editions of the conference, carrying forward discussions on gender, law, and societal transformation in developing nations.
CONFERENCE LEGACY
Since its inception, this conference has carved out a distinct space for itself in the global dialogue on women’s rights. The 1st edition laid the foundation by focusing on “Women’s Rights in Developing Countries” and served as a critical forum for sharing insights into the challenges women face in those contexts. The 2nd edition, themed “Women’s Rights in Emerging Societies,” built on that foundation by delving deeper into the multifaceted struggles faced by women, from economic disparity to gender-based violence.
Both editions successfully brought together policymakers, legal experts, activists, and academics, generating actionable outcomes and fostering cross-border collaboration. The conference has become an annual convergence of global minds working towards a shared vision of a more just and equitable world for women.
This year’s theme, “Women’s Rights, Social Equity, and Legal Transformation”, seeks to build upon that legacy, continuing the discourse while integrating a more focused lens on legal reforms and social equity. By drawing on the lessons from past conferences and the collective experiences of participants, the 3rd edition aims to serve as a catalyst for tangible change in the legal and social landscapes of emerging societies.
